As a physician for 33 year with a specialty of internal medicine, and a subspecialty in nuclear medicine, I advised my patients to have yearly physical examinations. Many were found to be in excellent health. However, at a later date, I was often called to the hospital emergency room to examine one of my patients with an acute emergency¡Xa possible hart attack, and accident, or some other serious physical problem. Such patients were often fearful and apprehensive, with the thought of death uppermost in their minds.
After dealing with their medical emergency, I often heard them admit to being exposed to Christianity by radio or TV, but seldom read the Bible, prayed, or attended church. They were living good moral lives, performing good deeds, and giving to charities, but did not sense the peace of God.
Frequently I asked the question, ¡§If you were to die unexpectedly, do you know for certain that you would go to heaven?¡¨
The typical answer was, ¡§I think so,¡¨ or ¡§I hope so.¡¨
However, some patients would answer, ¡§Yes, I know so. I have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ, have peace with God, and am prepared for heaven.¡¨
Do you ever wonder how you can know for certain that you have eternal life, peace with God, and be prepared to enter heaven?
All physicians have medical textbooks written by medical authorities to assist them in making correct diagnosis and proper treatment. We also have a Guidebook, provided by the Supreme spiritual authority, God, our Heavenly Father. He has given us His word, the Bible, to guide us in our daily living and to explain how to prepare for life after death.
The Bible declares that we all have a fatal spiritual condition. ¡§All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God¡¨ (Romans 3:23). The diabetic must seek medical care to avoid death. This is like our sinful condition. We must find the answer, or we will die spiritually.
The Bible clearly states, ¡§For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord¡¨ (Romans 6:23). Fortunately, God has provided a cure for our spiritual condition. The Bible further states, ¡§God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us¡¨ (Romans 5:8)
He did this by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to shed His blood and die on the cross to cleanse us from our past and present sin. ¡§Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God¡¦s wrath though (Jesus Christ)¡¨ (Romans 5:9)
Christ came back to life again to prove that He had paid the complete penalty for our sin.
The next step is yours. In order to belong to God¡¦s family, you must, by faith, personally trust and accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior.
The Bible describes this step of faith: ¡§If you confess with your mouth, ¡¥Jesus is Lord,¡¦ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved¡KFor ¡¥everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved¡¦¡¨ (Romans 10:9,10,13).
Notice the word ¡§everyone.¡¨ It excludes no one. If you will call upon Jesus Christ in faith as your personal Savior, you will be saved. God will give you eternal life. There is no ¡§maybe¡¨ ¡Xor ¡§I hope so¡¨ ¡Xor ¡§I think so,¡¨ only ¡§I know so.¡¨ The Bible states, ¡§Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved¡¨ (Romans 10:13)
Why not pray the following prayer to God, our Heavenly Father:
Dear God,
I admit that I am a sinner, I believe your son, Jesus Christ, died and rose again and has forgiven me of all my sins. I personally call upon you in faith to trust and accept Your Son, Jesus Christ, as my Savior. Thank you for giving me peace with God and the gift of eternal life in heave. Amen.
Here are some suggestions to help you reinforce your new relationship with God:
1.Immediately tell someone close to you of your decision and new found faith in Jesus Christ.
2.Read God¡¦s Word, the Bible, daily. God will teach you how to live an abundant life now.
3.Pray often. You are communicating with God.
4.Seek Christian fellowship in a Bible-believing church.
5.Memorize verses from the Bible.
