9/29/2013 A Look at Israel's Spiritual Future |
Scriptures: | Zechariah 12-14 |
Heart of the Passage: | Zechariah 14 |
Overview
Zechariah closes his prophecy with a breathtaking panorama of events in store for Israel "in that day." Topographically, the Mount of Olives would split in half (14:4). Spiritually, idols and false prophets would be removed from the land (13:2-3) and Jerusalem would become the focus of worship, with cooking pots as sacred as the bowls beside the altar (14:20). Militarily, God would destroy all nations that come against Jerusalem (12:9). Politically, the Lord would be King over all the earth (14:9). In short, every aspect of Israel's national life would reflect God's authority—an exciting prospect indeed! |

Your Daily Walk
It is one thing to anticipate a future event; it is something else to act in response to that anticipation, As you read the final chapters of Zechariah, consider this: The prophet's predictions regarding Jesus1 first coming were unerringly accurate. 1ffhat does that suggest about Zechariah's foretelling of events surrounding Jesus' second coming?
Anticipation says there is coming a day of great mourning for those who looked upon the crucified Savior but never received Him personally (12:10-11). Action says, "Don't be numbered with them."
Anticipation says there is coming a day when every knee will bow before the Lord (14:9). Action inquires, "Have you bowed before Him voluntarily, or will you only worship Him when you have no other choice?"
Anticipation says there is coming a day when holiness will be the hallmark of God's people (14:20-21). Action demands, "Are you moving toward that goal in the public and private details of your life?" What are you anticipating about the future because you are a Christian? And what action does that suggest in your life ... today?
