Overview
Though horrible judgment would fall on Israel's neighbors, Israel would be preserved for the long-awaited day of her Messiah's arrival. The King of Zion would come riding upon the colt of a donkey to defend His people and defeat His enemies, just as I le promised. Yet in spite of His offer of redemption, the King would be rejected and betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. |
Your Daily Walk
Think back over your times of prayer this past week and compile a list of things you prayed for. You may want to arrange them by category: prayers for yourself, for others, for your nation, etc. Now take a mental inventory of all the worries and anxieties you are currently entertaining: pressing deadlines at work, a lingering illness, a broken relationship, a car that refuses to work properly, too much month and not enough money, a discipline problem in the home, a long dry spell without rain, the high price of almost everything.
As you catalog your anxieties, place a check next to those items you've already thought to pray about. Does the small number of checks surprise you? James 4:2 diagnoses the problem this way: "Ye have not, because ye ask not." It was true in the days of Zechariah. The God of creation, the God of all goodness, the God who made the clouds and the rain, nonetheless commanded His people: "Ask ye of the LORD rain ... so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain" (10:1). Though God is the giver of every good and perfect gift. He delights to have His children bring their petitions to Him.
Today, talk to God about the "un-prayer requests" in your life. Remember. God cannot answer petitions which you have not asked, though He knows what you need before you even pray.
