10/24/2013 Triumph of the Son of Man |
Scriptures: | Luke 22-24 |
Heart of the Passage: | Luke 24 |
Overview
With his typical attention to detail, Luke provides a full account of the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of the Son of Man. In graphic word pictures Luke describes the diabolical plot of Judas, the warm fellowship of the Last Supper, the mental anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane, the tragic denial by Peter, the miscarriage of justice at the trials, and the brutal agony of the Roman execution. But the dark days in Jerusalem give way to die brilliant dawning of that first Easter morning when angels announce, "He is not here, but is risen" (24:6)! |

Your Daily Walk
If you have difficulty praising God on a daily basis, chances are it's not because you lack something to praise Him for, but simply because you have a short memory.
Consider this scene from Luke 24. It is Easter Sunday morning. Standing near the now empty tomb is a group of women who are "perplexed" and "afraid" (24:4-5). Soon they are joined by Peter who is "wondering in himself" (24:12). The scene shifts to two men walking along the road leading to Emmaus. As they discuss current events in Jerusalem, they feel "sad" (24:17),
Question: What could possibly be the source of so much sadness and perplexity?
Answer: The very event that Jesus had predicted at least five times—His resurrection! Instead of bringing joy and gladness to His followers, it brought heartache and grief—not because the news was bad, but because the disciples' memories were so short.
Is a short memory robbing you of the joy God intends for you today? Make a list of God's merciful dealings in your life so far this month. Remember them? Of course! Now smile.

Insight
A Finished Task Unfinished (24:44-49)
In one sense Jesus' mission was finished because it was based on accomplished facts (His death and resurrection). But in another sense it was just beginning, for the world had yet to hear the Good News which only a handful of people knew firsthand. Luke's second volume, the Acts of the Apostles, will continue the exciting story.
